Several ingredient suppliers recently presented their latest innovations. Bitop introduced their active skincare ingredients from TikTok sensation Ectoin® natural to Glycoin® natural, Cosphatec discussed their Cosphaderm® Absolute ingredient whilst CLR showed how to refine skin texture and complexion with soft focus.

PROGRAMME:

Stop ‘skin inflammaging’ with a 100% natural multifunctional bioactive (Bitop)

Inflammaging has recently emerged as a pathway that correlates aging and age-related diseases with inflammation. In 2015, the World Health Organization World Report on Ageing and Health highlighted an urgent requirement for healthy ageing strategies.

Inflammaging refers to a progressive increase in chronic low-level inflammation that occurs naturally in the body as we get older. The main feature of the ageing process is a chronic progressive increase in the proinflammatory status, that was originally termed as “inflamm-aging”. The term “inflamm-aging” was first named by Franceschi et al. in 2000, and it is a new addition to the types of ageing studies. Skin-specific symptoms of chronic inflammation include wrinkles and crow’s feet, uneven tone and texture, and a slowdown of cells’ self-healing functions.

This seminar throws light upon the scientific process associated with inflammaging, the main causes of inflammaging and provides a ‘one-stop solution to inflammaging’ and the associated concerns.

Antimicrobial product stabilisation by natural humectants (Cosphatec)

Cosphaderm® Absolute is a blend of three established humectant actives in optimally aligned concentrations.

Using Cosphaderm® Absolute helps to hydrate the skin and improve the skin’s barrier function while reducing the water activity of a formulation.

The lower the water activity of a formulation, the less antimicrobials need to be used for preservation.

The never-ending quest for refined skin structure and even skin complexion (CLR)

One of our biggest challenges is to develop products which lead to refined skin structure and even coloration. Zooming out, we come to the recognition of the importance conspicuous pores as a main consumer concern. Astringents, however, have now shown to not be good enough.

Consumers need a real solution to their problem: products which act on all relevant biological pathways in the skin which lead to conspicuous and unsightly pores. Pore size is one aspect to address, but it essential to also take colour contrast between the pore and its surrounding, into consideration. Only with a holistic yet clearly goal-oriented approach, conspicuous pores can be reduced.

CLR Berlin developed CutiFine CLR™, which was proven in both in vitro and placebo-controlled in vivo studies to perceivably reduce conspicuous pores. This presentation will address these studies, but also the importance of conspicuous pores for the consumer and the cosmetic industry.

  • Skincare’s biggest challenge: Refined skin and even complexion
  • One of the main consumer concerns: Conspicuous and unsightly pores
  • Demand for holistic, but goal-oriented approaches for perceivable effects
  • The key: Addressing pore size and colour contrast of pores

Poptide™, is a cyclic peptide that modulates skintropy, the chaos present in our skin caused by aging and external factors. Aging is the main reason for endoplasmatic reticulum stress and chaperones’ decrease, thus the appearance of misfolded proteins.

Poptide™ proved to minimize misfolded proteins by increasing the main chaperones of ER, and so the unfolded Protein Response. This results in breaking the Wrinkles Daily Cycle (evening wrinkles are more pronounced than morning ones), where Poptide™ is able to improve its appearance cycle by cycle.

Claims:

  • Modulating skintropy
  • Refolding proteins
  • Breaking Wrinkle Daily Cycle

Natural, multifunctional, highly effective: How one bioactive can meet all trending consumer needs

Presented by: René Schmitz, Technical Sales & Marketing Manager, BITOP

The need for 100% natural, highly effective, safe, and multifunctional active ingredients is rising. There is only a very limited number of single molecules with clinically proven efficacy a formulator can choose from to implement multiple benefits like anti-ageing, skin barrier repair, soothing, whitening, long-term hydration, and global protection (anti-pollution, blue-light, etc.) with one active. In this webinar we will provide an overview of trending consumer needs and explain how the single molecule and bioactive Ectoin can help you to formulate highly effective, “clean-beauty” formulations, meeting the latest market trends.

11:30-12:00

A new collagen era

Presented by: Ariadna Grau Campistany, PhD, R&D Manager, Lipotrue

Timeless classics have become must-haves thanks to their record of quality and efficacy. If there is one classic in cosmetics, it is collagen. Whether in its protein version, hydrolyzed amino acids or collagen booster ingredients, all can provide the longed-for collagen claim. However, consumers’ needs are evolving and demand sustainability, animal friendliness, and high efficacy.
Presenting a type I collagen fragment produced in wild plants as biofactories, this sustainable technology allows us to obtain a molecule identical to a fragment of the human collagen type I sequence, with the proper post-translational hydroxylations required to be fully functional. A remastered concept of collagen, for a new collagen era.

12:20-12:50

Caring for you and for others – our community-based product line

Presented by: Katharina Scharringhausen, Sustainable Product Management, & Mareike Tendahl, Export Sales, Henry Lamotte

Cosmetic customers are moved by sustainable topics like mindful beauty, ethically sourced ingredients and green cosmetics. Our community-based products emphasize these sustainable topics and offer the perfect properties for beauty lovers – products which are caring for you and for others. We like to present you our handcrafted Shea Butter from Ghana and Burkina Faso, Paradise Nut Oil from Colombia and Marula Oil from Namibia. Many products in our community-based product line have been part of our assortment for several years. They offer added sustainability value because: 1. people in the countries of origin of the raw material use or manufacture the products traditionally, making them particularly authentic, and 2. the products provide fair income and thus a better standard of living for people in the raw material origin. In addition, each product reinforces at least three sustainability aspects and related SDGs (sustainable development goals) of the United Nations.

14:00-14:30

Happy ageing for your eyes, with a purified & sustainable active ingredient

Presented by: Sébastien HAMEURY, Marketing Director, Greentech

Wellness-oriented beauty is more than ever a top trend in this post-Covid era. Beauty rituals answer to people’s need of taking care of themselves, of expressing who they are. Anti-ageing remains a key concern, especially because signs of ageing can disturb individuals’ self-representation as well as the perception by others. Among signs of facial ageing, the ageing of eye-contours is essential as the eyes are a vector of emotions and deeply involved in the perception of the beauty of a face.

In line with the now requirement of sustainable solutions with no compromise in efficacy, a comprehensive solution to tackle eye contour ageing will be proposed. With visible results in just 14 days, this solution relies on a sustainably and locally harvested plant resource, purified to achieve a efficient highly substantiated active ingredient.

14:50 -15:20

World’s first cutting-edge ingredient, “Repista”. Cell rejuvenation for well-ageing.

Presented by: Hisae Aoshima, PhD/Manager of R&D Department, Vitamin C60 BioResearch Corporation

“Repista” is a completely new anti-ageing ingredient that has a cell activation effect. Aza-Oxohypoxanthine, a plant growth factor found only slightly in plants, was developed by VC60 for the first time in the world as a cosmetic ingredient. It will be a safe and secure ingredient that is also contained in vegetables such as tomatoes, potatoes, rice and wheat which we take in our daily lives. It has been confirmed to have retinol-like effects, such as promoting turnover and hyaluronic acid production, and has also been shown to improve the skin barrier function and skin brightness in clinical trials. It is non-irritant and can be used safely by people of all ages, skin types, and genders.
Join us on our webinar as we introduce this raw material to overseas markets for the first time!

Maximizing the strengths of natural ingredients through traditional technology.

Presented by: Junko Iesaki, Cosmetic Marketing & Sales Division, Koken

“SHONAI BIJIN” is a rice fermented extract (Sake) made from Junmai-shu (pure rice sake), and is brewed by the traditional sake manufacturing method, known as “Kimoto-zukuri (brewing)” without adding lactic acid, but taking full advantage of nature. The fermentation process yields various amino acids, such as D-amino acids, αEG and organic acids, and may further enhance the skin barrier function.

In this webinar, we’ll delve further into the sake brewing process and showcase “KOHAKUYUKI-Sake Lees Aging Fermented Extract”, which is made from Sake Lees (Sake Kasu) fermented at low temperature for more than 1,000 hours. This contains large amounts of amino and organic acids, as well as kojic acid, which has a brightening effect, and ferulic acid, which has an antioxidant component. All essential in reversing signs of aging and promoting cellular repair.

Turn back the time: Rejuvenating skin with a natural, multifunctional bioactive.

Presented by: Rene Schmitz, Technical Marketing & Sales Manager, Bitop AG

The need for 100% natural, highly effective, and multifunctional anti-aging actives is rising. There is only a limited number of single molecules with clinically proven, rejuvenating efficacy which a formulator can pick from to offer visible benefits for the consumer. We at bitop present Glycoin® natural, a single-molecule bioactive, which offers multifunctional properties like anti-aging, instant hydration, whitening, blue light protection, and microbiome support.

This webinar provides an overview of anti-aging market trends and explains how Glycoin® natural can help to formulate highly effective, “clean-beauty” formulations with only one active ingredient which meet the latest consumer trends.

Symrise Micro Protection: Modern & Sustainable.

Presented by: Marie Bourgeay, Global Product Manager- Micro Protection, Symrise

The 12 principles of green chemistry have been developed to design more sustainable products and processes.

Symrise embraces and applies these principles: From the production plant to the use of side products. In this webinar, discover concrete examples of green chemistry in Symrise’s Skin & Product Protection categories.

Creating cosmetic gems from apple waste: Discover Provital’s upcycled active for a healthier skin and a circular beauty industry.

Presented by: Clara Vigo Xancó, Product Manager, Provital

Aiming to achieve a zero-waste beauty industry, Provital presents Pomarage™, a well-aging upcycled ingredient resulting from upcycling by-products from apple processing in local industry.

Born as the intention of collaboration between Provital and a local supplier (Mooma®), this sets the example for a new kind of sourcing project: an agro-cosmetics symbiosis that will contribute to reduce food waste, to increase the profit for the primary sector and to reduce our industry’s carbon footprint (contributing to SDGs 8, 12, 13).

The cosmetic benefits of this 0-Km and upcycled and polyphenol-rich active include the increase on the endogenic production of collagen and hyaluronic acid, as well as the reduction of inflammatory and cellular senescence processes. Learn all about new and differential ways to take commercial advantage of such an ingredient while increasing your sustainability standards.

Multifunctionality & Market expectations

Presented by: Balint Koroskenyi, Global Product Manager – Micro Protection, Symrise

Cosmetic formulations constantly need to be optimized: They must be lean and effective, follow national regulations and regional preferences – and must respect the cost of the end product. Consumers, on the other hand, demand ultimate efficacy and care with safe and clean formulations.

Modern product protection addresses all these requirements at the same time – thanks to multifunctional ingredients.

Natural Cellulose as a source of inspiration in personal care

Presented by: Geoffrey Stijfs, Technical Sales Manager, Sappi Biochemtech B.V.

Fibrillated Cellulose (FC) is a 100% natural, biodegradable and sustainable material produced by mechanically processing wood derived cellulose fibres down to their smallest components, resulting in innovative material properties, including excellent stabilizing potential, flow modification and skin hydration. FC’s unique rheology profile – high viscosity at rest and highly shear thinning – makes it a suitable material for applications in personal care, from easily spreadable creams to sprayable formulations with outstanding stability and hydrating properties.

We will cover how Fibrillated Cellulose is produced and the difference to other conventional celluloses on the market before moving into the most common features Valida will impart to formulations through case studies and commercial examples. We will explore innovative formulation concepts: stabilizing oil in water without using emulsifier, additive boosting, and cost-effective replacement of microplastics. We will finish with some considerations when using FC.

Sourcing Reimagined: How Evonik is responding to the growing sustainability opportunity.

Presented by: Matthew Wolbert, Technical Product Specialist, Evonik

Let’s take a journey to discover how Evonik is responding to the continued sustainability challenge with our new active ingredients: TEGO® Natural Betula and TEGO® Sterol 7-DHC V.

What does it truly means to be sustainable? We’ll dive into Evonik’s exciting product developments employing alternative sourcing methodologies. The antibacterial/antiviral activity and skin barrier function-reinforcing effect of GO-VC for skin roughness after using alcohol-based hand sanitizers.

Presented by: Yui Oshida, Supervisor of Sales Department, ITO

GO-VC is a highly stable amphiphilic ascorbic acid derivative where glycerine and octanol are introduced to ascorbic acid, and has been confirmed to have antibacterial and antiviral activities. Therefore, the addition of GO-VC to the alcohol-based hand sanitizers is considered to lead to the enhancement of the antibacterial and antiviral activities.

Furthermore, GO-VC could reinforce the skin barrier function through the up-regulation of tight junctions, resulting in the suppression of skin dryness. This makes GO-VC is suitable for the care of skin roughness and dryness after using alcohol-based hand sanitizers.

In addition, GO-VC has been confirmed of clinical effects on the spots, wrinkles, and acne by dermatologists and their action mechanism, and is also recommended to add to cosmetic products for anti-aging. In this seminar, we will introduce the various effects of GO-VC on the skin in detail.

Scent’aging, does aging have a smell?

Presented by: Marco J. Klein, PhD, business Development Manager – APAC & Germany, Lipotrue

People’s scent is relatively important in human social interaction. Each one of us has an odour-print, just like a fingerprint, which is our own and unique personal scent, a combination of odours from the different parts of the body (e.g. skin, head, armpit, feet). Perfumes and personal care products can enhance, mask, or alter this. As we age, our odour-print evolves and not only due to changes in eating or hygiene habits, but specifically because of aging, what is called Scent’aging. LipoTrue presents N_llscent™, an active ingredient tackling Scent’aging to bring back the purity of your natural essence.

When the encapsulation of cosmetic ingredients trend originated, two words were most frequently used to describe its benefits: sustainable and effective.

Ceramide capsules were invented in 1990 but soon put aside due to consumers’ growing concern for environmental protection. Lately, we’ve been witnessing a shift in the use of “beauty capsules” with the implementation of naturally-derived, biodegradable casings, now transforming the market and allowing brands to uncover the full potential of encapsulated ingredients while being eco-friendly.

Now, “Korean Personal Care Encapsulating Materials Market was valued at $25,268 thousand in 2016 and is expected to reach $59,880 thousand by 2023, registering a CAGR of 10.9% during the forecast period”, according to the Allied Market Research. And colour cosmetics are projected to be the top investment in the personal care market in Korea due to its high rising demand.

The benefits of encapsulating active ingredients do not stop at eco-friendly claims. Besides allowing for deeper reach into the epidermis where special delivery systems would be required otherwise, the encapsulation can also fix instability issues as the active travels from the product to its human target and much more.

“The encapsulation of active ingredients prevents incompatibility between different materials or protects an active ingredient by its complete separation from the environment. For example, vitamins, polyphenols and flavonoids are protected against oxidative influences”, wrote the cosmetic news source cosmeticsbusiness.com.

Optimising efficiency is the main selling point for encapsulation as it concentrates the potency of the ingredient and removes the need for components that would minimize their strength, like fillers or stabilizers

Sustainable, cost-effective and powerful! Who doesn’t want a formulation working at full capacity? Join this 30-minute webinar session to see how easy it is to formulate with hard spheres and encapsulated soft pearls for skincare, personal care and make-up. These pearls will transfer any o/w emulsion and be mixed with actives for a variety of applications.

Let us share KPT’s 15-year experience with spherical, granular and support powder and uncover improving technology for your formulations.

Key learning points:

  • Spherical, granular and support powder technologies for cosmetics
  • Mixing encapsulated soft pearls with actives for different applications
  • Using hard spheres for skincare

This is only one of the four sessions we’ll be hosting during The Science of K-Beauty Ingredients Day on 24 June. Learn all about each session, the ingredients you’ll discover and how to join on the event’s page here.
